One of Serbia’s most treasured cultural landmarks, the National Theatre in Belgrade, now benefits from fire safety solutions provided by Advanced.

Built in 1869 and restored over the years, the theatre is not just a hub for Serbian performing arts but a significant heritage site. Providing effective fire safety for such a venue required solutions that could be installed with minimal disruption to its busy schedule of performances while meeting the unique demands of a historic building.

The installation, delivered by TVI d.o.o., features 11 Advanced ExGo extinguishing control panels, alongside an MxPro 5 fire panel and a TouchControl repeater. This combination provides comprehensive coverage for the venue, protecting high-risk areas such as archives and technical rooms where Novec 1230 gas is used to safeguard delicate assets without the risk of water damage.

Approved to EN12094-1 and EN54 Parts 2, 4 and 13, the ExGo panels are specifically designed to meet the challenges of environments like theatres, where safety must be balanced with operational continuity. With their ability to integrate seamlessly into complex systems and deliver precise control over extinguishing sequences, ExGo ensures rapid response to fire risks while minimising false alarms or unnecessary evacuations – critical for maintaining the theatre’s schedule. Each panel is configured for alarm verification, pre-extinguishing warnings, and solenoid valve activation, offering both reliability and adaptability to the venue’s needs.

Additionally, the TouchControl repeater simplifies system management by providing a user-friendly interface with interactive layouts of extinguishing zones. Its colour-coded indicators for alarms, faults, and disablements ensure instant visibility of the system’s status, making it an ideal tool for a venue with complex safety requirements.

Radomir Kerkez B.E.E., Head Manager of the Electrical Engineering Department at TVI d.o.o., commented: “Advanced’s solutions are incredibly flexible and user-friendly, which made the entire process seamless from design to installation. The ExGo system, in particular, is the ideal choice for ensuring the safety of such a prestigious site, offering the reliability and adaptability needed to protect a historic venue like the National Theatre without compromising its daily operations or cultural events.”

Vladimir Zrnic, Regional Sales Manager for Europe at Advanced, added: “Protecting a building of such historical and cultural significance requires more than standard fire safety solutions. It demands technology that can be tailored to the unique challenges of the site, ensuring uncompromised protection for both the structure and its visitors. With ExGo and our other advanced systems in place, the National Theatre now benefits from a robust and highly adaptable solution designed to safeguard its legacy while supporting its role as a hub for performing arts.”

By combining technical innovation with careful planning, Advanced has delivered a fire safety system that provides world-class protection without compromising the theatre’s day-to-day operations, ensuring this historic landmark is safeguarded for future generations.

When the George and Abbotsford Hotel in Melrose urgently required an upgrade to its existing fire alarm system, Safe Services installed a new Advanced MxPro 5 analogue addressable fire panel to provide industry-leading protection.

The George and Abbotsford Hotel is located a 5-minute walk from the historic St Cuthbert’s Way and Melrose Abbey in the Scottish Borders. A popular, busy hotel it attracts guests who are keen to walk in the footsteps of St Cuthbert across unspoiled countryside, as well as visit ancient market towns, and local historic sites, such as Abbotsford the home of Sir Walter Scott. With guest and staff safety of paramount importance, the hotel needed an upgrade to its existing fire alarm system to bring it up to Category L2 coverage standards as the current system was obsolete and was starting to fail.

Fire and security service providers, Safe Services, were contacted to upgrade the fire system and installed an Advanced MxPro 5 four-loop analogue addressable fire panel, with all four loops used to meet the requirements of this large hotel. The Advanced panel was also seamlessly integrated with EMS Firecell wireless devices. Due to the size of the hotel, it would have been impossible to install cabling because of the extensive downtime that would be needed to fit the cables. The fire system was also interfaced with a kitchen suppression system to provide extra protection.

“We are very happy with the Advanced system and the installation by Safe Services. It was quite a complex project as the hotel is a big building. The previous fire safety system was obsolete, it was a cabled system and the cables were obsolete too. It would have been very costly to install a cabled system as it was so complex. We decided on a radio system and that took a week to install,” said Graham Barrett, Owner of the George and Abbotsford Hotel.

Graeme Millar, Fire Technical Sales Engineer at Safe Systems, said: “The George and Abbotsford Hotel required a new fire alarm system to meet Category L2. Housed in a large building, both the fire alarm system and cabling were obsolete. However, installing new cabling would have meant major disruption to this busy hotel due to the building’s size. We therefore integrated the Advanced panel with the wireless EMS Firecell. The Advanced MxPro 5 is our panel of choice as it’s a trusted and reliable panel with our design and installation teams. Combining the Advanced MxPro 5 with the EMS equipment works very well and we have used this combination in a number of our projects.”

Neil Parkin, Sales Manager at Advanced, said: “In hotels, it is vital to ensure fire alarm systems meet the latest standards and so protect guests and staff. Our MxPro 5 panels are designed to make life as easy as possible, delivering robust protection and compliance that offers real peace of mind, all backed up by our highly rated technical support. Selecting wireless equipment when installing a fire system offers minimal disruption for hotels providing both time and cost benefits.”

“The Axis AX installation at Reel Cinemas was smooth and efficient, despite the complexities of working in a large-scale entertainment venue. The system’s flexibility and advanced configuration options allowed us to tailor it to the project’s specific fire safety needs, seamlessly integrating with the cinema’s existing infrastructure. The Axis AX’s reliability and ease of programming enabled us to meet the challenges of this dynamic environment while ensuring top-level safety for cinema-goers and staff,” said Adithya Karne, Draughtsman & Estimator at Alpha Fire & Safety.

Sargunan Sellamuthu, Advanced’s Business Development Manager for the Middle East, added: “We’re proud to see the Axis AX system installed at such a prestigious location as Reel Cinemas in Bahrain. This project highlights the system’s ability to manage complex environments, easily integrating with other critical building systems while offering the flexibility to meet the unique demands of an entertainment venue. It’s a great example of how our technology delivers scalable, powerful fire protection for even the most challenging applications.”

Reel Cinemas, now equipped with the Axis AX system, is well prepared to protect its visitors, providing peace of mind through advanced fire detection and control technology. As a venue with thousands of patrons passing through its doors daily, the reliability of the Axis AX system ensures that safety remains a priority without compromising the cinema’s sleek, modern design.

This installation is a testament to Advanced’s ongoing commitment to providing robust and scalable fire protection solutions for entertainment complexes and beyond. With its ability to support intelligent devices and integrate with building management systems, the Axis AX continues to be the preferred choice for major installations in the Middle East and around the world.

Fire protection solutions manufacturer, Advanced, has provided an intelligent fire panel with wireless detection to protect a historic mansion house and estate in Scotland.

An Advanced MxPro 5 analogue addressable fire panel has been installed in Wedderlie House to provide industry-leading protection that is high-performance and fault-tolerant. The system protects the whole house, which required Category L2 coverage as it provides wedding accommodation.

Wedderlie House, in the parish of Westruther, consists of a fortified tower thought to date from the late 16th century, to which a larger house was added in 1680. A late 17th century three-storey addition features rough-cast walls, and the Renaissance House was added to the old keep expanding the building further.

Fire and security service providers, Safe Services, installed an Advanced MxPro 5 four-loop analogue addressable fire panel with 86 devices on the loop. Due to the age and construction of the building, it would have been impossible to install cabling without damaging the property, so the Advanced panel was seamlessly integrated with EMS Firecell wireless devices.

Graeme Millar, Fire Technical Sales Engineer at Safe Services, said: “We were responsible for the installation, commissioning, verification and handover of the system, and will also be conducting ongoing maintenance. The age and construction of Wedderlie House could have been a real challenge but being able to integrate the Advanced panel with wireless EMS Firecell detection made it far more straightforward. We have several sites with the same combination, and we know the Advanced MxPro 5 works well with EMS equipment. The Advanced MxPro 5 is our panel of choice as it’s a trusted and reliable panel with our design and installation teams.”

Neil Parkin, Sales Manager at Advanced, said: “Our open-protocol MxPro 5 panels allow installers to select the most suitable device range to suit the needs of each site. They are designed to make life as easy as possible, delivering robust protection that offers real peace of mind, all backed up by our highly rated technical support. Opting for wireless equipment is ideal for historic sites like Wedderlie House, where cabling can be trickier to install and visually unappealing. Add to that the time and cost benefits they provide to installers, and it is a great choice in multiple scenarios both large and small.”

An industry-leading Axis EN fire system has been installed in MIRACLZ, a new mixed-use tower block in Dubai.

Our Axis EN range with voice evacuation, fire telephone, and smoke management has been installed at MIRACLZ, covering the entire building. Located next to Miracle Garden, the 37-storey building houses 591 fully furnished one-bedroom, two-bedroom and studio apartments; shopping and leisure experiences; a swimming pool and sauna; gym; party hall; and kids’ play area.

The main fire panel with voice command centre is located in the ground floor fire command centre room and is networked with multiple 1, 4 and 8-loop panels to form a distributed system. The installation also included an Advanced remote repeater panel, integration with third-party detectors, and a dedicated voice evacuation amplifier on each of the building’s floors.

EDMAC Consulting specified the fire system and it was supplied, installed and commissioned by Advanced distribution partners, Cignetix Systems. Fully integrated with BACNET BMS, the system incorporates over three thousand addressable devices including interfacing units for monitoring or controlling of water flow switches, staircase pressurisation fans, lifts, air handling units and fire dampers. Whether you opt for the simpler QuickZone panel, or the feature-rich QuickZone XL, Advanced can deliver the conventional system you need.”
