Advanced has supplied an intelligent MxPro 5 fire panel with wireless detection to iconic Scottish knitwear brand Eribé.

An Advanced MxPro 5 analogue addressable fire panel has been installed at Eribé Knitwear to provide industry-leading protection that is high-performance and fault-tolerant. The system was installed following a fire risk assessment which required Category L2 coverage.

Founded in 1986, Eribé’s knitwear design house and manufacturing company is based in Melrose, in the Scottish Borders. The company prides itself in championing Made in Scotland and has a dedicated fan base worldwide. During 2024 the company took time to assess the whole business to strengthen its internal and external systems and processes for its staff and customers. As part of this process, Eribé reviewed its fire system to ensure full compliance and prioritise staff, premises, and customer safety by investing in Advanced fire protection.

Fire and security service providers, Safe Services, installed an Advanced MxPro 5 single-loop analogue addressable fire panel to replace the existing fire system, as it was old and could not be brought up to standard. Since the MxPro 5 was being retrofitted at Eribé the Advanced panel was seamlessly integrated with an EMS Firecell wireless system, this simplified the installation since cabling was not required throughout the building.

“In 2024 we reviewed our business as a whole to strengthen our processes. The safety of our staff, premises, and customers was a priority and so we were fully behind investing in an Advanced fire safety system. We are now really proud to say that with the help of Safe Services, our extended team, managers and directors feel far more knowledgeable regarding the risks and actions, and the whole team feels safer and more invested in it as a result,” said Tamsin Ansdell, Eribé Knitwear.

Graeme Millar, Fire Technical Sales Engineer at Safe Services, said: “We were responsible for the installation, commissioning, verification and handover of the system at Eribé, and will also be conducting ongoing maintenance. As we installed the Advanced panel with the wireless EMS Firecell it made it far more straightforward and meant less disruption for Eribé. We have several sites we have worked on with the same combination, and know the Advanced MxPro 5 works well with EMS equipment. The Advanced MxPro 5 is our panel of choice as it’s a trusted and reliable panel with our design and installation teams.”

Neil Parkin, Sales Manager at Advanced, said: “Choosing wireless equipment when installing a fire system is ideal for retrofitting, where cabling can be trickier to install and visually unappealing. Add to that the time and cost benefits they provide to installers, and it is a great choice in multiple scenarios both large and small. Our MxPro 5 panels are designed to make life as easy as possible, delivering robust protection that offers real peace of mind, all backed up by our highly rated technical support.”

One of Serbia’s most treasured cultural landmarks, the National Theatre in Belgrade, now benefits from fire safety solutions provided by Advanced.

Built in 1869 and restored over the years, the theatre is not just a hub for Serbian performing arts but a significant heritage site. Providing effective fire safety for such a venue required solutions that could be installed with minimal disruption to its busy schedule of performances while meeting the unique demands of a historic building.

The installation, delivered by TVI d.o.o., features 11 Advanced ExGo extinguishing control panels, alongside an MxPro 5 fire panel and a TouchControl repeater. This combination provides comprehensive coverage for the venue, protecting high-risk areas such as archives and technical rooms where Novec 1230 gas is used to safeguard delicate assets without the risk of water damage.

Approved to EN12094-1 and EN54 Parts 2, 4 and 13, the ExGo panels are specifically designed to meet the challenges of environments like theatres, where safety must be balanced with operational continuity. With their ability to integrate seamlessly into complex systems and deliver precise control over extinguishing sequences, ExGo ensures rapid response to fire risks while minimising false alarms or unnecessary evacuations – critical for maintaining the theatre’s schedule. Each panel is configured for alarm verification, pre-extinguishing warnings, and solenoid valve activation, offering both reliability and adaptability to the venue’s needs.

Additionally, the TouchControl repeater simplifies system management by providing a user-friendly interface with interactive layouts of extinguishing zones. Its colour-coded indicators for alarms, faults, and disablements ensure instant visibility of the system’s status, making it an ideal tool for a venue with complex safety requirements.

Radomir Kerkez B.E.E., Head Manager of the Electrical Engineering Department at TVI d.o.o., commented: “Advanced’s solutions are incredibly flexible and user-friendly, which made the entire process seamless from design to installation. The ExGo system, in particular, is the ideal choice for ensuring the safety of such a prestigious site, offering the reliability and adaptability needed to protect a historic venue like the National Theatre without compromising its daily operations or cultural events.”

Vladimir Zrnic, Regional Sales Manager for Europe at Advanced, added: “Protecting a building of such historical and cultural significance requires more than standard fire safety solutions. It demands technology that can be tailored to the unique challenges of the site, ensuring uncompromised protection for both the structure and its visitors. With ExGo and our other advanced systems in place, the National Theatre now benefits from a robust and highly adaptable solution designed to safeguard its legacy while supporting its role as a hub for performing arts.”

By combining technical innovation with careful planning, Advanced has delivered a fire safety system that provides world-class protection without compromising the theatre’s day-to-day operations, ensuring this historic landmark is safeguarded for future generations.

Blists Hill Victorian Town Museum in the Ironbridge Gorge now benefits from a comprehensive Advanced fire protection system designed to improve safety, simplify management, and provide real-time insights across its expansive historical site.

At Blists Hill Victorian Town, one of the museums cared for by the Ironbridge Gorge Museum Trust, visitors travel back in time to the year 1900 as they wander through streets of historic buildings, visiting traditional shops, exploring industrial sites and seeing Victorian-style homes; some of these buildings have been moved brick by brick to the museum from across the region. Preserving this historical charm required a modern fire safety solution that could operate across the sprawling, complex site – encompassing mine tunnels and standalone structures– without disrupting daily operations or its unique visitor experience.

The existing fire alarm system was due for renewal and the Trust was looking for something with better functionality.  The site now features seven separate Advanced MxPro 5 panels which are connected to the AdvancedLive smart monitoring and management platform. This allows the independent panels to be unified into a single, cohesive interface, creating a virtual network for the fire system. This approach eliminates the need for additional hardware like separate BMS interfaces or modules, making the solution cost effective and simple to install. By making the fire system status available anytime, anywhere via any internet-enabled device, AdvancedLive provides the site’s security and facilities teams with seamless, centralised management to suit their location and schedule.

Designed with end users in mind, AdvancedLive allows non-specialist staff to monitor fire system status through an intuitive interface that features a choice of map or list views. Real-time notifications alert the team to fires, faults, or device disablements, enabling them to act quickly, even when off site. This easy-to-use system empowers the Blists Hill team to maintain safety standards without requiring in-depth fire system training, saving both time and resources.

Chubb Fire and Security carried out the installation, which included 600 Hyfire wireless devices to ensure comprehensive coverage across the site’s houses, shops, and underground mining tunnels. The seamless integration of AdvancedLive and wireless devices ensures robust fire protection while maintaining the historical integrity of the buildings.

Dean Bradley from Chubb Fire and Security praised the system, noting: “The installation process was smooth and seamless, thanks to the integration capabilities of Advanced equipment. With such a dispersed site, it was crucial that we could provide full protection without disrupting the flow of daily operations and by using Advanced we were able to do just that, whilst maintaining the integrity of the site’s historical charm.”

Paul Taylor, Lead Technical Architect at Advanced, added: “Blists Hill Victorian Town presented a unique set of challenges – from the site’s historical significance to its dispersed layout. Our solution, combining an MxPro 5 network and the remote management and control capabilities of AdvancedLive, has proven invaluable in addressing these complexities while preserving the visitor experience. We’re proud to have played a role in safeguarding such an iconic site for future generations.”

Ross Davidson, Visitor Engagement Manager at Blists Hill Victorian Town, said: “The new system allows us to locate and identify the source of any activation much more quickly, meaning we can minimise disruption to our visitor experience.”

AdvancedLive’s scalability ensures it will continue to support the site’s evolving needs, providing the ability to integrate new buildings into the system as Blists Hill expands. Its real-time monitoring, ease of use, and cost-efficient design make it an invaluable tool for safeguarding this living slice of history.

Abbeyfield Belfast’s Bell Rotary House which provides supported sheltered accommodation for older people in Belfast has enhanced its fire safety with the installation of an Advanced MxPro 5 fire alarm system.

The purpose-built residence, while preserving the charm of a classic Belfast house, accommodates 19 residents in private en-suite rooms and is staffed 24/7, providing a safe and supportive living environment. Ashdale Engineering Ltd., an NSI Gold certified installer, was commissioned to upgrade Bell Rotary’s aging fire detection system to the robust, EN54-certified MxPro 5 solution.

Given the fully occupied nature of the supported sheltered living facility, it was critical to maintain continuous fire detection coverage throughout the installation process. Ashdale addressed this by interlinking the new MxPro 5 system with the outgoing system, ensuring complete fire detection remained in place until the migration was finalised.

The new system includes an MxPro 5 two-loop panel, which provides L1 coverage for the entire building and is integrated with Bell Rotary’s magnetic door holders, lift control, and access systems, which release or adjust as necessary during fire alarms, further reinforcing the home’s fire safety plan.

Colin Simms, Operations Director at Ashdale, noted: “We take great pride in using Advanced systems as our panel of choice due to their reliability, ease of use, and open protocol platform. Our team has trusted Advanced’s products for over 45 years, and we consistently use the highest quality equipment to ensure customer satisfaction.”

Neil Parkin, Advanced’s Sales Manager for UK North, Northern Ireland and ROI, also commented: “The MxPro 5 fire panel is ideal for settings like Abbeyfield Belfast’s Bell Rotary House, where maintaining both safety and heritage is essential. We’re proud that our technology supports the care and comfort of residents, offering advanced protection with flexibility for future needs.”

Advanced’s MxPro 5 panel is designed to adapt to the diverse needs of assisted living and supported sheltered facilities, with intuitive programming, powerful networking, and scalable capacity for future growth or changes in fire safety requirements. With this installation, Abbeyfield Belfast’s Bell Rotary House residents can rely on a dependable fire safety system, ensuring their wellbeing in a secure and comfortable environment.

MxPro 5 is the fire industry’s leading multiprotocol fire panel and is certified by FM Approvals to the EN 54 standard. It offers customers a choice of leading detector protocols and a completely open installer network, backed up by free training and support. MxPro 5 can be used in single-loop, single-panel format, or easily configured into high-speed networks of up to 200 panels covering huge areas. Ease of installation and configuration, as well as its wide range of peripheral options, make MxPro 5 customisable to almost any application.

Fire protection solutions manufacturer, Advanced, has provided an intelligent fire panel with wireless detection to protect a historic mansion house and estate in Scotland.

An Advanced MxPro 5 analogue addressable fire panel has been installed in Wedderlie House to provide industry-leading protection that is high-performance and fault-tolerant. The system protects the whole house, which required Category L2 coverage as it provides wedding accommodation.

Wedderlie House, in the parish of Westruther, consists of a fortified tower thought to date from the late 16th century, to which a larger house was added in 1680. A late 17th century three-storey addition features rough-cast walls, and the Renaissance House was added to the old keep expanding the building further.

Fire and security service providers, Safe Services, installed an Advanced MxPro 5 four-loop analogue addressable fire panel with 86 devices on the loop. Due to the age and construction of the building, it would have been impossible to install cabling without damaging the property, so the Advanced panel was seamlessly integrated with EMS Firecell wireless devices.

Graeme Millar, Fire Technical Sales Engineer at Safe Services, said: “We were responsible for the installation, commissioning, verification and handover of the system, and will also be conducting ongoing maintenance. The age and construction of Wedderlie House could have been a real challenge but being able to integrate the Advanced panel with wireless EMS Firecell detection made it far more straightforward. A high-performance Axis AX fire alarm system with automated voice alarm has been installed at a historic Indian high court building.

Located in the historic city of Allahabad (now known as Prayagraj), Allahabad High Court was established in 1866, making it one of the oldest high courts in India. Based in an impressive building constructed in a range of Indo-European architectural styles, the court has jurisdiction over several branches of law across the state of Uttar Pradesh, including supervision of 75 district and outlying courts.

Industry-leading Axis AX fire panels from Advanced have been installed in one of the court’s buildings housing 2,294 advocate chambers and a multilevel car park with a built-up area of 200,000 square feet. The installation covers of 2,294 advocate chambers, parking spaces for 2,323 and a utility building.

Advanced specified a new analogue addressable system with high sensitivity smoke detection in the custody suite, together with an automated voice alarm (VA) system.

The UL-approved Axis AX system includes 64 loop FAS along with an integrated audio evacuation panel, networked 4-loop panels linked to the building management system, evacuation speakers, and exhaust and pressurisation fans for the building’s smoke control function.

A modular voice alarm system with master and five slave units is also included. It is pre-programmed with a series of automated messages that are activated in the event of an alert, but there is also an option for manual intervention to broadcast bespoke messages using a microphone. If an alarm is raised by devices within the courtroom areas, evacuation procedures are initiated in these zones and an alert is transmitted to the custody suite. Equally, should an incident be detected in the custody suite this area will be evacuated immediately and the court areas put on standby during an evacuation.

Arunmanjunath N, Advanced National Sales Manager for India & Subcontinent, said: “This was a challenging project that required us as a team to overcome stiff competition from competitor products. Ultimately, the versatility and choice combined with ease of install and use afforded by Axis AX ensured it provided a complete solution to protect this sizeable historic building.”

Axis AX is a versatile fire alarm system of high-performance fire panels, audio systems, command centres and devices designed to make UL compliance easy. It combines addressable panels with audio systems, command centres and a versatile and comprehensive range of wired devices including CO detectors to bring you performance, quality, and ease of use.

Axis AX has been designed to go anywhere you need high quality, reliable and easy-to-use fire detection and control, from mass transportation and industrial complexes to landmark developments, historic buildings and public services.

A shared use office and retail space at the landmark former home of British Pathé is now being protected by Advanced.

360Fire designed and commissioned a new Advanced fire alarm system with phased evacuation as part of a wider restoration and refurbishment project which will see the creation of a number of workspaces, including private offices, office suites and full floors, alongside social areas and retail units.

Located at 142 Wardour Street, Soho, Film House was once at the heart of London’s ‘film row’. By the late 1940s it’s estimated that up to 100 film companies occupied the street, including Warner Brothers and 20th Century Fox.

Originally the site of Faraday Electrical Works, the office building was re-built in 1929 in the Art Deco style. Over its long history it has acted as the headquarters for several iconic British businesses, including the Associated-British Pathé film company and later HMV.

Taking design responsibility for the project, 360Fire worked with Mechanical Services Ltd (MSL) who installed four, four-loop Advanced MxPro 5 panels and one repeater panel alongside Hochiki detectors, covering all six tenanted floors of the building.

Selected for their open-protocol nature, the panels are integrated with a voice alarm system allowing for phased evacuation, with lifts operating on a dual signal to the ground or alternative floor, depending on fire location. An out of hours override activated via the panel’s function button cancels the phased evacuation and enables the system to revert to a ‘one out all out’ system with no delays. Further integration with the building’s BMS enables control over sprinklers, door access, lifts, and smoke vents.

The system also makes use of MxPro 5’s stand-out false alarm management capabilities. Available as standard on MxPro 5 panels, AlarmCalm delivers unprecedented control of verification and investigation delays. By dividing sites up into virtual false alarm ‘building areas’ independent of fire zones, much more precise control of false alarm management and reduction strategies can be achieved, that exactly fit the needs of each part of a building. An optional AlarmCalm button allows trained occupants to verify if they believe a local fire signal is a false alarm too – a highly effective way of eliminating unwanted alarms.

Chris Peart, Service & Commissioning Manager at 360Fire, said: “This was a complex project and MxPro 5 panels were specifically chosen due to their open protocol nature, flexibility and ease of cause-and-effect programming. Advanced is the market leader and without fail represents the best solution for both the installer and the end user.”

MxPro 5 is the fire industry’s leading multiprotocol fire system solution, approved to EN54 Parts 2, 4 and 13. It offers customers a choice of four detector protocols and a completely open installer network, backed up by free training and support. MxPro 5 panels can be used in single-loop, single-panel format, or easily configured into high-speed networks of up to 200 panels covering huge areas. Ease of installation and configuration, as well as a wide range of peripherals, make MxPro 5 suitable for almost any application.

An intelligent Advanced Go panel has been installed in The Steading, the home of sculptor and furniture maker, Tim Stead MBE.

The Steading is an A-Listed building, located in Blainslie near Lauder in the Scottish Borders, and was both the creative centre and home to the Stead family across several decades. It was purchased by the Tim Stead Trust in 2021 and a programme of restoration work has included the addition of an Advanced Go new-generation, single-loop fire alarm control panel to protect this historic home.

The Steading is considered Tim’s masterpiece with an interior that was transformed over many years. The interior is completely clad in sculpted wood: floors, walls, ceilings, stairs, cupboards, beds, a grandfather clock, sink, conservatory, hanging sculptures, desks and so on – all made by Stead himself. This exceptional building now aims to become a hub for practical expertise in everything to do with wood and the environment, hosting a variety of day and residential courses in the unique environment of The Steading.

Fire and security service providers, Safe Services, installed the Advanced Go fire alarm panel in The Steading and were involved from the design stage though to installation and commissioning. The Advanced Go panel is integrated with EMS Firecell radio equipment for a complete cable-free fire system – which was an essential requirement to preserve and protect the unique interior of the building.

Graeme Millar, Fire Systems Technical and Sales Engineer at Safe Services said: “The Steading is a truly amazing property and we are delighted to have been able to install a system that helps protect this listed building from fire, without interfering with Tim Stead’s beautiful interior. Advanced is our fire protection manufacturer of choice and we rate them very highly, we don’t use anything else.”

Neil Parkin, Advanced Sales Manager for the North, said: “Our Go fire panel provides sophisticated Advanced configuration but with a single loop making it ideal for small projects like The Steading that still want robust fire protection to offer real peace of mind. Go was developed so that customers can still benefit from the performance, reliability, and flexibility they’ve come to expect from our premium MxPro 5 range, but in a cost-effective, single-loop format for simpler sites where networking’s not needed. Go is brimming with ease-of-use features alongside the latest microprocessor technology to ensure the panel operates at lightning speed so engineers can confidently fit, check and get going to their next job, knowing people and property are safely protected from fire.”

Go is the ideal solution for a wide range of single-panel sites – from restaurants, bars and guesthouses to small offices, shops, salons and surgeries. On straightforward jobs, Go’s fuss-free installation and configuration save time and money. However, the new panel also makes light work of more complex sites requiring sophisticated cause and effect programming options as well as false alarm management and reduction solutions.

Go has been developed with the needs of installers, engineers, and end users firmly in mind. A host of features make Go a breeze to set up. An easy-fit chassis with unique door design enables fast fitting, while familiar controls and menus mean there’s no lengthy learning curve. Intuitive new configuration software makes programming quicker and easier than ever, and a powerful design checker proves the system will work even before visiting site. In addition, enhanced diagnostics mean fewer faults, faster fixes, and better long-term performance.

Cost-efficiencies for customers have also been central to Go’s development, delivering maximum functionality on a small-site budget. The panel has 15 zonal LEDs as standard for clearer visual indication and BS 5839 compliance without the need to buy a separate LED zone card. Compatibility with three leading detector protocols provides wired and wireless options, as well as greater freedom over design and maintenance provider costs. Further cost savings as well as greater flexibility for site-specific installations are available thanks to a choice of two performance options with different maximum numbers of configurable addresses.
