An Advanced MxPro 5 fire panel has been installed to provide high-performance fire protection at a newly converted residential development in Padiham, Lancashire.

Victoria Apartments occupies a striking 19th-century cotton mill originally built in 1852. The site has since been transformed into luxury flats, combining modern living with preserved industrial character. As part of the redevelopment, a robust fire alarm system was required to provide coverage throughout the multi-residential building while accommodating the unique structure of the former mill.

1st Look Fire & Security were responsible for the installation, commissioning, and programming of the system. The team selected a next-generation MxPro 5 fire panel from Advanced, configured with four loops to meet the specific requirements of the site and support a flexible, complex system suitable for a building of this size and age.

The system is configured using Hochiki protocol devices, in line with the company’s standard approach when using Advanced technology. The configuration also supports a tailored cause-and-effect strategy, developed by 1st Look’s trained commissioning engineers. A dedicated site configuration has been created to support future maintenance, updates or expansion if required.

Following completion, feedback from the client highlighted the helpfulness, speed, and professionalism of the team on site, noting their clear communication and proactive approach throughout the project.

Damian Symonds, Director at 1st Look Fire & Security, said: “Advanced is our go-to for projects that demand a dependable, adaptable system. The MxPro 5 was a great fit for Victoria Apartments, offering the performance and flexibility we needed, with intuitive setup for our engineers. We also delivered a session for the local fire service, who were very impressed with the system’s capabilities.”

Neil Parkin, Sales Manager at Advanced, added: “The Victoria Apartments project is a great example of how next-generation MxPro 5 panels can deliver modern fire protection in historic settings. With its enhanced configuration features and high loop capacity, it’s an ideal choice for conversions and residential redevelopments of this kind.”

The next-generation MxPro 5 panels offer increased performance, with a more powerful processor, quicker programming, and wider protocol compatibility. Designed to streamline installation and future-proof system design, the panel gives installers and end users a powerful, flexible fire safety solution.

Three next-generation Advanced MxPro 5 fire panels have been installed across a multi-building residential development on Westminster Bridge Road, London, delivering reliable protection for residents.

Located in the heart of London, just minutes from Waterloo Station, the Westminster Bridge Road development comprises three residential buildings, each containing a mix of private flats and houses of multiple occupancy (HMOs).

The properties share some facilities and services, presenting specific fire safety challenges, particularly around retained gas infrastructure. As a result, carbon monoxide detection was also required to safeguard against potential leaks into occupied areas.

Integrated Fire Safety Systems Ltd (IFSS) was responsible for all aspects of the fire alarm installation across the buildings. The team designed a Category L2 fire system using three Advanced MxPro 5 single-loop panels, each managing 24 devices including multisensors and detectors.

To ensure the remote monitoring provider could identify which of the three buildings a fire signal originated from, IFSS configured the system to transmit clear, building-specific information via a GSM monitoring unit. As the panels were not networked, precise configuration was essential to ensure the fire service could respond quickly and accurately in the event of an alarm.

Wayne Stanley, Project Manager at IFSS, said: “Advanced is my go-to for fire panels. They’re user friendly, easy to install, and look great on the wall. The MxPro 5 is a durable and well-designed panel that gives us the flexibility we need on more complex installations like this one.”

Salvy Vittozzi, Sales Manager for the South East at Advanced, added: “This project highlights the strengths of our next-generation MxPro 5 panels in adapting to more complex residential layouts. With standalone configuration, CO detection and clear signal identification needed across three separate buildings, the panel’s flexible programming and wide device compatibility provided the ideal solution to meet both  the installer’s and the client’s requirements.”

The next-generation MxPro 5 panels installed at Westminster Bridge Road offer enhanced performance and flexibility. With a more powerful processor for faster response times, improved configuration options, and expanded protocol compatibility, the system was ideally suited to meet the project’s technical demands, particularly the need for precise, standalone panel configuration.

Advanced has supplied an intelligent MxPro 5 fire panel with wireless detection to iconic Scottish knitwear brand Eribé.

An Advanced MxPro 5 analogue addressable fire panel has been installed at Eribé Knitwear to provide industry-leading protection that is high-performance and fault-tolerant. The system was installed following a fire risk assessment which required Category L2 coverage.

Founded in 1986, Eribé’s knitwear design house and manufacturing company is based in Melrose, in the Scottish Borders. The company prides itself in championing Made in Scotland and has a dedicated fan base worldwide. During 2024 the company took time to assess the whole business to strengthen its internal and external systems and processes for its staff and customers. As part of this process, Eribé reviewed its fire system to ensure full compliance and prioritise staff, premises, and customer safety by investing in Advanced fire protection.

Fire and security service providers, Safe Services, installed an Advanced MxPro 5 single-loop analogue addressable fire panel to replace the existing fire system, as it was old and could not be brought up to standard. Since the MxPro 5 was being retrofitted at Eribé the Advanced panel was seamlessly integrated with an EMS Firecell wireless system, this simplified the installation since cabling was not required throughout the building.

“In 2024 we reviewed our business as a whole to strengthen our processes. The safety of our staff, premises, and customers was a priority and so we were fully behind investing in an Advanced fire safety system. We are now really proud to say that with the help of Safe Services, our extended team, managers and directors feel far more knowledgeable regarding the risks and actions, and the whole team feels safer and more invested in it as a result,” said Tamsin Ansdell, Eribé Knitwear.

Graeme Millar, Fire Technical Sales Engineer at Safe Services, said: “We were responsible for the installation, commissioning, verification and handover of the system at Eribé, and will also be conducting ongoing maintenance. As we installed the Advanced panel with the wireless EMS Firecell it made it far more straightforward and meant less disruption for Eribé. We have several sites we have worked on with the same combination, and know the Advanced MxPro 5 works well with EMS equipment. The Advanced MxPro 5 is our panel of choice as it’s a trusted and reliable panel with our design and installation teams.”

Neil Parkin, Sales Manager at Advanced, said: “Choosing wireless equipment when installing a fire system is ideal for retrofitting, where cabling can be trickier to install and visually unappealing. Add to that the time and cost benefits they provide to installers, and it is a great choice in multiple scenarios both large and small. Our MxPro 5 panels are designed to make life as easy as possible, delivering robust protection that offers real peace of mind, all backed up by our highly rated technical support.”

Lucent Square, a new residential development in Leeds, has been equipped with Advanced’s EvacGo evacuation alert system to enhance resident safety and ensure compliance with the BS 8629 Code of Practice.

Covering 54 apartments across six floors, the system features a standalone EvacGo panel located at the main entrance and provides fire and rescue services with a reliable method of alerting residents in an emergency. As part of the fire strategy for the development, the installation of an evacuation alert system was a key requirement to ensure the highest levels of safety.

S&R Electrical Contracting Services Ltd, responsible for the full installation, selected Advanced’s EvacGo system due to its compliance with BS 8629 and its reputation for reliability. This is the first time the team has installed EvacGo, and, following the completion of this project, they now highly recommended it based on their experience.

As with all EvacGo systems, the panel at Lucent Square is housed inside a secure STS 205-certified enclosure with a BS EN 1303-compliant lock and key mechanism, ensuring that only the fire and rescue service can access the controls. This minimises the risk of tampering while guaranteeing that evacuation procedures can be implemented efficiently when needed.

Steve Greenwood, Director at S&R Electrical Contracting Services Ltd, said: “This was our first installation of an EvacGo system, and we were very impressed with its ease of use and straightforward setup. Advanced’s reputation in the industry gave us full confidence in specifying their system for this project, and it has proven to be a great choice.”

Shaun Scott, Emergency Evacuation Systems Application Engineer at Advanced, said: “We are pleased that our EvacGo system has been chosen for Lucent Square, providing an essential layer of safety for its residents. Evacuation alert systems are becoming increasingly recognised as a key safety measure for residential buildings, and it’s encouraging to see developers prioritising solutions that adhere to best practice.”

The installation of EvacGo at Lucent Square reflects the growing commitment to ensuring resident safety in high-rise buildings. With evacuation alert systems now mandatory for new residential buildings over 18 metres in England and Scotland, developers and installers are increasingly turning to trusted, compliant solutions such as EvacGo to meet regulatory requirements and provide peace of mind to residents and building managers alike.

Blists Hill Victorian Town Museum in the Ironbridge Gorge now benefits from a comprehensive Advanced fire protection system designed to improve safety, simplify management, and provide real-time insights across its expansive historical site.

At Blists Hill Victorian Town, one of the museums cared for by the Ironbridge Gorge Museum Trust, visitors travel back in time to the year 1900 as they wander through streets of historic buildings, visiting traditional shops, exploring industrial sites and seeing Victorian-style homes; some of these buildings have been moved brick by brick to the museum from across the region. Preserving this historical charm required a modern fire safety solution that could operate across the sprawling, complex site – encompassing mine tunnels and standalone structures– without disrupting daily operations or its unique visitor experience.

The existing fire alarm system was due for renewal and the Trust was looking for something with better functionality.  The site now features seven separate Advanced MxPro 5 panels which are connected to the AdvancedLive smart monitoring and management platform. This allows the independent panels to be unified into a single, cohesive interface, creating a virtual network for the fire system. This approach eliminates the need for additional hardware like separate BMS interfaces or modules, making the solution cost effective and simple to install. By making the fire system status available anytime, anywhere via any internet-enabled device, AdvancedLive provides the site’s security and facilities teams with seamless, centralised management to suit their location and schedule.

Designed with end users in mind, AdvancedLive allows non-specialist staff to monitor fire system status through an intuitive interface that features a choice of map or list views. Real-time notifications alert the team to fires, faults, or device disablements, enabling them to act quickly, even when off site. This easy-to-use system empowers the Blists Hill team to maintain safety standards without requiring in-depth fire system training, saving both time and resources.

Chubb Fire and Security carried out the installation, which included 600 Hyfire wireless devices to ensure comprehensive coverage across the site’s houses, shops, and underground mining tunnels. The seamless integration of AdvancedLive and wireless devices ensures robust fire protection while maintaining the historical integrity of the buildings.

Dean Bradley from Chubb Fire and Security praised the system, noting: “The installation process was smooth and seamless, thanks to the integration capabilities of Advanced equipment. With such a dispersed site, it was crucial that we could provide full protection without disrupting the flow of daily operations and by using Advanced we were able to do just that, whilst maintaining the integrity of the site’s historical charm.”

Paul Taylor, Lead Technical Architect at Advanced, added: “Blists Hill Victorian Town presented a unique set of challenges – from the site’s historical significance to its dispersed layout. Our solution, combining an MxPro 5 network and the remote management and control capabilities of AdvancedLive, has proven invaluable in addressing these complexities while preserving the visitor experience. We’re proud to have played a role in safeguarding such an iconic site for future generations.”

Ross Davidson, Visitor Engagement Manager at Blists Hill Victorian Town, said: “The new system allows us to locate and identify the source of any activation much more quickly, meaning we can minimise disruption to our visitor experience.”

AdvancedLive’s scalability ensures it will continue to support the site’s evolving needs, providing the ability to integrate new buildings into the system as Blists Hill expands. Its real-time monitoring, ease of use, and cost-efficient design make it an invaluable tool for safeguarding this living slice of history.

When the George and Abbotsford Hotel in Melrose urgently required an upgrade to its existing fire alarm system, Safe Services installed a new Advanced MxPro 5 analogue addressable fire panel to provide industry-leading protection.

The George and Abbotsford Hotel is located a 5-minute walk from the historic St Cuthbert’s Way and Melrose Abbey in the Scottish Borders. A popular, busy hotel it attracts guests who are keen to walk in the footsteps of St Cuthbert across unspoiled countryside, as well as visit ancient market towns, and local historic sites, such as Abbotsford the home of Sir Walter Scott. With guest and staff safety of paramount importance, the hotel needed an upgrade to its existing fire alarm system to bring it up to Category L2 coverage standards as the current system was obsolete and was starting to fail.

Fire and security service providers, Safe Services, were contacted to upgrade the fire system and installed an Advanced MxPro 5 four-loop analogue addressable fire panel, with all four loops used to meet the requirements of this large hotel. The Advanced panel was also seamlessly integrated with EMS Firecell wireless devices. Due to the size of the hotel, it would have been impossible to install cabling because of the extensive downtime that would be needed to fit the cables. The fire system was also interfaced with a kitchen suppression system to provide extra protection.

“We are very happy with the Advanced system and the installation by Safe Services. It was quite a complex project as the hotel is a big building. The previous fire safety system was obsolete, it was a cabled system and the cables were obsolete too. It would have been very costly to install a cabled system as it was so complex. We decided on a radio system and that took a week to install,” said Graham Barrett, Owner of the George and Abbotsford Hotel.

Graeme Millar, Fire Technical Sales Engineer at Safe Systems, said: “The George and Abbotsford Hotel required a new fire alarm system to meet Category L2. Housed in a large building, both the fire alarm system and cabling were obsolete. However, installing new cabling would have meant major disruption to this busy hotel due to the building’s size. We therefore integrated the Advanced panel with the wireless EMS Firecell. The Advanced MxPro 5 is our panel of choice as it’s a trusted and reliable panel with our design and installation teams. Combining the Advanced MxPro 5 with the EMS equipment works very well and we have used this combination in a number of our projects.”

Neil Parkin, Sales Manager at Advanced, said: “In hotels, it is vital to ensure fire alarm systems meet the latest standards and so protect guests and staff. Our MxPro 5 panels are designed to make life as easy as possible, delivering robust protection and compliance that offers real peace of mind, all backed up by our highly rated technical support. Selecting wireless equipment when installing a fire system offers minimal disruption for hotels providing both time and cost benefits.”

A Manchester independent living complex is now equipped with state-of-the-art safety technology following the installation of an EvacGo evacuation alert system from Advanced.

Located in central Manchester, Princess Court is a high-rise building that offers specialist housing for residents aged 55 and over across 50 flats. Constructed in 1993 and managed by Your Housing Group, the development provides low-level support to help residents live independently and safely.

With Advanced’s best-selling fire panel, MxPro 5, already installed at the site, this latest project, executed by JFN Integrated Solutions Ltd, aims to further enhance the safety and security of residents across all six residential floors of the building. The EvacGo evacuation alert system, known for its cutting-edge technology and user-friendly interface, was selected for its advanced features and reliability. When used alongside the robust protection afforded by the MxPro 5, comprehensive coverage and optimal safety measures are ensured throughout Princess Court.

JFN Integrated Solutions Ltd, the maintenance service provider for Your Housing Group across its site portfolio, undertook the installation with their team of skilled engineers. These professionals, experienced in working with various manufacturers’ systems, found the BS 8629-compliant EvacGo system exceptionally easy to understand and install. Their positive feedback underscores the system’s user-friendly design and intuitive operation, setting a new standard in evacuation alert systems.

Chris Keeney, Director of JFN Integrated Solutions Ltd, said: “The project for us was one that ran smoothly from start to finish. It was even more satisfactory that it enabled us to achieve BAFE SP207 accreditation, following on from an audit of this system installation and management files.

“The choice to specify Advanced’s EvacGo evacuation alert system was a natural one. Having extensively used Advanced equipment in our projects, we have developed a profound trust in their products’ quality, reliability, and ease of use. The seamless integration of EvacGo with our existing Advanced systems further reinforces our confidence in Advanced’s capabilities, making it the ideal choice for our clients’ safety needs.”

Ruth Woodyatt, Fire Safety Manager at Your Housing Group, added: “The installation of EvacGo coincided with a two-year long project to replace the external cladding system, upgrade passive and active fire safety measures throughout the building and, following completion of the work, a move to a stay put evacuation strategy. The system has given our residents peace of mind that an evacuation can be initiated and controlled should this ever be required in the future, and that their safety continues to our top priority.”

Designed to make it easy to meet BS 8629 Code of Practice recommendations, EvacGo sets new standards in evacuation alert technology, ensuring the safety and peace of mind of residents in various environments.

Installation of evacuation alert systems is mandatory in all new-build residential apartment blocks over 18m in England and Scotland. However, for all other new-build and retrofit projects, complying with BS 8629 is still seen as best practice. As a result, an increasing number of building owners are taking steps to provide an extra layer of protection to residents of developments that aren’t obligated to meet the requirements, such as Princess Court.

Shaun Scott, Emergency Evacuation Systems Application Engineer at Advanced, said: “We are truly encouraged to witness housing companies going above and beyond legal requirements to prioritise safety. At Advanced, we believe that every individual deserves to feel safe in their surroundings, and proactive initiatives like the installation of EvacGo demonstrate a shared commitment to the wellbeing of communities. These actions not only showcase a commitment to residents’ safety but also inspire others to invest in cutting-edge technologies that can make a significant difference in emergency situations.”

The purpose-built residence, while preserving the charm of a classic Belfast house, accommodates 19 residents in private en-suite rooms and is staffed 24/7, providing a safe and supportive living environment. Ashdale Engineering Ltd., an NSI Gold certified installer, was commissioned to upgrade Bell Rotary’s aging fire detection system to the robust, EN54-certified MxPro 5 solution.

Given the fully occupied nature of the supported sheltered living facility, it was critical to maintain continuous fire detection coverage throughout the installation process. Ashdale addressed this by interlinking the new MxPro 5 system with the outgoing system, ensuring complete fire detection remained in place until the migration was finalised.

The new system includes an MxPro 5 two-loop panel, which provides L1 coverage for the entire building and is integrated with Bell Rotary’s magnetic door holders, lift control, and access systems, which release or adjust as necessary during fire alarms, further reinforcing the home’s fire safety plan.

Colin Simms, Operations Director at Ashdale, noted: “We take great pride in using Advanced systems as our panel of choice due to their reliability, ease of use, and open protocol platform. Our team has trusted Advanced’s products for over 45 years, and we consistently use the highest quality equipment to ensure customer satisfaction.”

Neil Parkin, Advanced’s Sales Manager for UK North, Northern Ireland and ROI, also commented: “The MxPro 5 fire panel is ideal for settings like Abbeyfield Belfast’s Bell Rotary House, where maintaining both safety and heritage is essential. We’re proud that our technology supports the care and comfort of residents, offering advanced protection with flexibility for future needs.”

Advanced’s MxPro 5 panel is designed to adapt to the diverse needs of assisted living and supported sheltered facilities, with intuitive programming, powerful networking, and scalable capacity for future growth or changes in fire safety requirements. With this installation, Abbeyfield Belfast’s Bell Rotary House residents can rely on a dependable fire safety system, ensuring their wellbeing in a secure and comfortable environment.

MxPro 5 is the fire industry’s leading multiprotocol fire panel and is certified by FM Approvals to the EN 54 standard. It offers customers a choice of leading detector protocols and a completely open installer network, backed up by free training and support. MxPro 5 can be used in single-loop, single-panel format, or easily configured into high-speed networks of up to 200 panels covering huge areas. Ease of installation and configuration, as well as its wide range of peripheral options, make MxPro 5 customisable to almost any application.

Long Meadow Primary School in Milton Keynes has taken a major step forward in ensuring the safety of its students and staff with a comprehensive upgrade to its fire safety system.

Managed and executed by Swift Fire & Safety, the project included the successful installation of a state-of-the-art Advanced MxPro 5 single loop panel (large enclosure), along with a variety of other fire safety enhancements.

Long Meadow Primary School serves a vibrant community and required a reliable and robust fire safety solution to replace its previous, obsolete system. The new installation covers all areas of the school, including classrooms, corridors, offices, plant rooms, storerooms, kitchen, and the main hall.

The project featured the integration of a remote signalling and roll call system to enhance overall safety and communication during emergencies. Additionally, an external sounder was installed for playing field notification, programmed to silence after 30 minutes, in compliance with BS5839-1. This feature was easily programmed using the Advanced configuration tool, demonstrating the system’s superb flexibility and user-friendliness.

Ed Hunt, Project Manager at Swift Fire & Safety, commented on the project: “For this project, Advanced was the logical replacement for the existing panel which was obsolete and for which there was very limited support. With its versatility and being both user and engineer friendly, Advanced was an obvious choice.”

Salvy Vittozzi, Regional Sales Manager for the South East, added: “We’re proud to provide Long Meadow Primary School with a state-of-the-art fire safety solution. The MxPro 5’s adaptability and ease of use ensure that the school is equipped with a reliable system that enhances the safety of everyone in the building.”

The successful upgrade at Long Meadow Primary School highlights Advanced’s commitment to providing cutting-edge fire safety solutions that are both reliable and adaptable, ensuring the highest levels of protection for educational facilities.
